Coaches: Jose, Luis, Melissa, and Kayla Jose Demeterio Head Coach - Team Sr./Jr./Hs E-mail: CoachJose@lonestarswimteam.org Born in Lansing, Michigan and raised on Guam, Coach Jose has been involved with swimming since the age of 5. He has competed as a member of Team Guam for numerous International Swimming events as an Athlete and Coach. He competed for eighteen years and is entering his twelfth year as a Coach. He also taught US History, Psychology, and Sociology, at Simon A. Sanchez in Yigo, Guam for eight years. Prior to arriving in Houston in August of 2004, Coach Jose was a Coach and later Head Coach of the Manukai Athletic Club. As an athlete he participated in the Pan Pacific Championships in Brisbane, Australia; the 1987 South Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia; Japan; Hawai’i; Saipan; and Pohnpei, FSM. He was a National Age Group swimmer in the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke. He won the Ohio Central District Championship in the 100yd breaststroke and finished 12th in the State Meet. In college he was a four year varsity swimmer for Blue Wave at SUNY @ Geneseo, NY. He is also a recognized Coach by the Oceania Weightlifting Federation. He has been with Lone Star Swim Team since the summer of 2005. He is married to Julie Demeterio, a Pre-K teacher with HISD. He has two sons ages nine and seven, and a daughter age six. Luis Alvarado Head Age Group Coach - Teams Red and Blue 1 E-mail: CoachLuis@lonestarswimteam.org In his second year, Coach Alvarado brings a unique and dedicated presence to Lone Star Swim Team. He has a competitive background based in water polo and swimming. As a Lobo, he was the Waterpolo Captain for three years, and swam on the Varsity Team for four years. Having graduated from Langham Creek HS in 2003, Coach Alvarado made his presence felt in the community as the Head Coach of the Chimney Hill Swim Team. The following year he became the Assistant Coach for the Jersey Village Stars. This past season he became that teams Head Coach and his athletes competed successfully at Ponderosa Invitational and the Red, White, and Blue Invitational Meets this past summer. Currently he is in charge of Team Red and Team Blue 1. Being thorough and attentive to the needs of swimmers is a unique trait that he brings to LSST. You can find him wandering the decks of the Dean pool. Coach Alvarado is currently entering his second year at Cy-Fair. College and is close to receiving his degree in International Business. Kayla Stambaugh Team White and LTS E-mail: CoachKayla@lonestarswimteam.org Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Coach Kayla brings youthful energy and discipline to LSST. Prior to becoming our newest Age Group Coach, Kayla was a former Asst. Coach for the Rolling Fork Gators. Coach Kayla began her competitive swimming career at the age of 12 for Carriage Lane during the summer, and was committed to Water Polo year round. During her high school years she was a varsity member of both the Swim Team and Water Polo Team. During her stint at Jersey Village High School, Coach Kayla represented the Houston Area as a member to the Water Polo Jr. Olympics in 2002 and 2005. Coach Kayla is currently enrolled at Cy-Fair College and is pursuing a degree in Education with the hope of one day becoming a teacher. Meanwhile, she is realizing another one of her dreams—of being a Coach—as a member of the LSST Coaching Staff. On most weekends Coach Kayla can be found camping and engaged in numerous water and land sports. She is a welcomed addition to LSST, and the swimmers under her tutelage will benefit greatly from her disciplined eye toward perfection. Please welcome Coach Kayla, to the LSST family. |
